MAM is excited to be showing the work of self-taught artist James Castle in the exhibit From Icehouse to Early Attic. Castle lived and made art his entire life in Idaho. These rare original books that he made from hand with found materials are incredibly telling of an obscure genius' life that may otherwise have remained unknown forever.
From Icehouse to Early Attic is curated by Tom Trusky, a leading scholar on the life and work of James Castle. He will be giving a Lecture on Wednesday, November 15. |

Suzy Holt: Burnt Gulch Revelations
This series of photographs by Suzy Holt was taken over the course of seasons since the Cave Gulch fire in 2000. An Artist-Forest-Community residency award in 2003 provided a National Forest cabin in the Big Belt Mountains for the artist to create this body of work. To the artist the work represents more than the depiction of destruction and resurrection, but confirms the beauty in the whole of life's story. |
