Acclaimed writer Heid E. Erdrich (Ojibwe, enrolled at Turtle Mountain) will visit MAM for a special reading. Erdrich is the author of numerous poetry collections, including Little Big Bully (Penguin, 2020), and an award-winning curator of Native art and literature. Hosted by Um Creative Writing Program.
Heid E. Erdrich’s most recent poetry collection is Verb Animate, 2024. Her honors include a National Poetry Series award, Native Arts and Cultures Foundation Fellowship, Loft-McKnight Fellowship in Prose, Minnesota State Arts Board grants, and two Minnesota Book Awards. Heid edited the anthology New Poets of Native Nations. Her poetry collection, Little Big Bully, won the Bobbitt Prize from the Library of Congress. She grew up in Wahpeton, North Dakota with a German American father, an Ojibwe and Metis mother, and six siblings. Heid is an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa. An independent scholar and curator, Heid was the 2024 inaugural Minneapolis Poet Laureate. In 2025, Heid is the James Welch Visiting Professor at University of Montana Missoula.
