Proposals

The MAM curatorial team welcomes the opportunity to review exhibition proposals from individual artists, collaborative groups, or guest curators. Artists who come from broad cultural backgrounds, identify as LGBTQ+, or who are affected by disabilities are encouraged to submit a proposal. Proposals are reviewed on a regular basis by museum staff across a broad range of departments. Artists are invited to submit proposals at any time of year. The museum strives to support artists from Missoula, broader Montana communities, and regional areas. We want to hear from you!

To submit a proposal, please include a cover letter, artist statement, curricula vita or résumé, and 15–20 images.

In the cover letter, please emphasize the project’s connection to MAM’s programming mission, propose a specific exhibition, and tell us about it—What do you want it to do? What will it look like? What is it about? If appropriate, describe possible ancillary programs that you may be able to provide, similar past experiences, and offer references. Finally, describe any special circumstances or provisions. Please limit artist statements to one paragraph that describes an overview of your general approach, process, concept, and how the process supports the concept.

Proposals can be mailed to:
