Remembering David Nelson

Join MAM and friends in remembering a Montana arts powerhouse, David Nelson (August 5, 1940-October 1, 2022).


At 31 years old, David became the director of the Yellowstone Art Center. After his tenure there, he served as the Executive Director for the Montana Arts Council for more than 20 years. David worked tirelessly to help bring public television and radio to Montana serving on the PBS Montana board for over 16 years. David was a significant research contributor to the hugely popular Lewis and Clark website, helping fellow explorers celebrate the bi-centennial of their expedition west. In addition to his numerous awards and accolades, David was the co-recipient of the 1999 Governor's Award for Life-Time Contributions to the Arts.
