Katy Stone: A Season Swirling (Unfurling)
April 4 2008 - May 31 2008
New Spaces/New Visions Katy Stone's installation utilizes all the surfaces in the Aresty Gallery and breaks out into the center of the gallery at key moments. Incorporating her signature aesthetic language of sensitive shadow and light, the work will all be made of Duralar, an archival acetate similar to "mylar" and include a dramatic variety of scale, and complexity. Certain forms repeat and are built out from the wall, morphing into more sculptural configurations. The central theme of the installation is based on the Montana landscape and the artist's impressions and memories of the rhythm of its seasons. As it stretches around the room, a strong sense of motion and sense of seasonal, natural forms emerge.
Stone previously visited MAM in March 2007 as part of an initial site visit. The completed installation, A Season Swirling (Unfurling), will be featured in a full-color catalogue featuring all five invited installation artists. Stone's installation is the third of the New Spaces/ New Visions series of five artist installations sponsored by the Andy Warhol Foundation.
