We Invite You
DEADLINE EXTENDED to Jan. 31, 2024
We invite Indigenous and descendant artists to participate in an exhibition focused on bringing awareness to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relative crisis in Montana. The exhibition welcomes a variety of Indigenous voices by artists residing in communities across the state from a variety of Tribal affiliations. It is only open to artists who are Indigenous or who identify as descendants, but MAM never requires enrollment status or blood quantum. We ask you all to please share this call for art widely; and we hope that you will submit your work if you are qualified.
We are pleased to announce the juror of this exhibition: Rachel Allen (Nimiipuu/Nez Perce), who grew up in Great Falls, has graciously agreed to serve as guest curator. One of our goals as a museum is to expand the curatorial voice to include broader Indigenous representation. With this position, we hope to forge new opportunities for Indigenous museum professionals and leadership in the arts while fostering new relationships, continually build the museum’s knowledge and that of our audience. This is something we hope to continue annually.
Allen is currently exhibition special project manager and co-curator of the upcoming Joe Feddersen retrospective at the Northwest Museum of Art and Culture in Spokane, WA. Allen responded, “Thank you so much for this kind invitation. I am so excited to hear about your commitment to Native people and art at the MAM. This exhibition theme is timely and urgent, and I applaud your efforts.”
