Saturday Multi-Age Workshop

Join photojournalist Tailyr Irvine for a hands-on, creative workshop all about capturing portraits with Polaroids! Through photographing, sharing and experimenting, you’ll explore how photography can tell your story. From the clothes we wear and how we style our hair to our jewelry, to our hands and shoes, we’ll discover how these elements reveal who we are and open up new ways of seeing and learning about one another. Come play with instant film, get curious and leave with photos (and stories) you can hold in your hands. All materials are provided. Children under age 7 must be accompanied by an adult. No experience needed.

After School Art Adventure

Tuesdays 3:45-5:15 pm

Join us for an exciting after-school experience where young artists explore the vibrant world of contemporary art at the Missoula Art Museum. Each Tuesday, children ages 6-11 will embark on a creative adventure that begins with a guided tour through MAM's current exhibitions, discovering new artists, techniques, and ideas that will fuel their own artistic expression.

After exploring the galleries, students dive into hands-on art projects directly inspired by what they've seen and learned. From painting and drawing to sculpture and mixed media, each session offers fresh creative challenges that help young artists develop their skills while having fun with friends.

Art in the Moment

Mondays, Twice a Month 1:30-3:30 pm

This program provides therapeutic benefits for elders experiencing memory loss by processing emotions and sparking memories through art. It creates a comforting space for those in early-stage dementia and their caregivers, fostering a dementia-friendly community in a creative, relaxed environment. Participants view artwork in small groups guided by MAM Teaching Artists, education staff, and volunteers, then create original art in the education classroom. Offered on the first Monday of warmer months (breaks February-March), the program serves community members and residents from memory care facilities. MAM developed this program to address our community's growing geriatrics population in partnership with Dementia-Friendly Missoula, The Springs and Village Memory Care Facilities, Missoula Aging Services, the Library's Memory Café, and the Montana Geriatrics Education Foundation.

Teen Art Project (TAP)

Thursdays, 2:30-5:00 PM, beginning in February

FREE Art Program, Materials, and Pizza! Rolling registration. Hands-on making and imagination. Art becomes a vehicle to connect, communicate, and manifest ideas. If you are between the ages of 13 and 17, enjoy making art, and are a creative thinker, this program is for you. MAM is committed to the next generation of creatives and is a space where teen voices matter.

Teen Open Studio (TOS)

Saturdays, 1-4:00 pm, beginning in February

TEEN OPEN STUDIO

Every Saturday afternoon, middle and high school students gather to make art in MAM’s classroom with unlimited art supplies! TOS is FREE and brings teens together in a casual and welcoming space to create independently or work collaboratively. Overseen by MAM education staff. Drop-in with a friend!
