MAM's Summer TAP is an Arts and Leadership Program for high school students that fosters community connection, enhances arts and leadership skills, and helps to amplify teen voices—all in a welcoming space that is safe and inclusive. Free art materials and pizza!

Summer TAP participants will collaborate with two professional muralists to design and install two alley murals in downtown Missoula as part of Missoula’s alley activation project with the Missoula Downtown Association (MDF). The MDF's Arts and Culture Impact Grant was awarded as a part of the project to activate alleys through arts and culture, as set forth in the 2019 Master Plan. The MDF awards this grant in order to create destination artwork and implement goals of the Downtown Master Plan, including more art, placemaking projects, alley activation projects, and gateway improvements. Participants will amplify their voices in a civic way by addressing the question: What if you could fill the void? All teen voices and contributions will be acknowledged throughout the project and at the culminating unveiling and celebration.

The final public art murals completed and installed will be a result of a collaboration between Summer TAP 2023 participants, professional artists, art mentors, and MAM's educational team. MAM is committed to creating a space where teen voices matter and have the potential to transform communities through artmaking.

MEET THE TEAM!

Summer TAP will be led by MAM teaching artists/professional artists/muralists, and MAM’s educator and outreach coordinator, Janaína Vieira-Marques. Additional exhibiting artists will be invited to collaborate when relevant to the program. Mentorship is the core of this collaborative team. Having served as the summer TAP Resident Artist since the inception of the program, Vieira-Marques will work closely with Summer TAP teaching artists Krissy Ramirez and April Werle in a mentor capacity. Vieira-Marques will share her experience fostering collaboration and community-building within the arts and with teens, as well as support the group with a focus on MAM’s core values. Led by professional artists: April Werle and Krissy Ramirez. Production coordinator and education mentor: Janaína Vieira-Marques.

  • Students should be enrolled in high school to be able to attend this workshop.
  • Space is limited to 20 high school students.
  • Attendance is required for participation.

TAP is about collaboration, public art, and citizenship. MAM is committed to creating a space where teen voices matter and have the potential to transform communities through artmaking. Through collaboration, teens learn how to coexist respectfully and peacefully.
